After inheriting the jewelry from her late mother-in-law, the guest on the “Antiques Roadshow” was surprised when expert Joanna Hardy revealed the evaluation. Joanna was clearly impressed and said, “I see a lot of jewelry, but very few pieces really make my heart smile. When I saw this, my heart really smiled…”
The precious pieces were handed to her in 1976 when her husband became mayor of Fylde in Lancashire. Joanna noted, “It’s interesting that he was mayor in 1976 because this bracelet was made in England and bears the 18-carat gold hallmark. It’s very heavy. We’re in 1974. It bears the CJ hallmark, the manufacturer.”
She then revealed the evaluation, saying, “At auction, this period is highly sought after.” We’ll start with the ring. I would say it’s about £2,000. That, as I said, really makes me smile. I love it. I would say comfortably, at auction, you’d be looking at around £8,000 [for the bracelet].”
Very surprised by the £3,000 evaluation, the participant was speechless for a while but then promised to wear the jewelry with pride: “I will continue to wear it whenever I can. It’s large, and I have to make sure I’m wearing the right outfit, but I will wear it with the utmost pride and always think of her.”
